Brussels/Kyiv, December 16 (Interfax-Ukraine) - European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso has said that Kyiv should make more effort if it hopes for greater assistance from the European Union. He said this at a plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Dec. 16, while commenting on the recent Ukraine-EU summit, the European Parliament told Interfax-Ukraine.

Barroso called the summit a "successful meeting," but added that "our Ukrainian friends need to do more if they want us to help them more." He also said that "enlargement is not possible in the current situation."

The Ukraine-EU summit was held in Kyiv on Dec. 4.
