You're reading: Batkivschyna: Opposition plans to hold ‘Rise Up, Ukraine!’ rally in Donetsk on May 31

The Donetsk regional political organization of the Batkivschyna All-Ukrainian Union has sent to Chairman of Donetsk City Council Oleksandr Lukyanchenko an announcement that it will hold a peaceful march and assembly in Donetsk on May 31 as a part of the opposition's "Rise Up, Ukraine!" campaign.

As the press service of Batkivschyna party reported, the march, led by opposition leaders, will start at 1600 and move along Artema Street from the Donetsk Solovyanenko National Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre. After the March, a rally outside Donetsk Regional State Administration will take place.

The opposition also sent open letters to the head of Donetsk Regional State Administration, Andriy Shyshatsky, the chief of the Interior Ministry’s main police department in Donetsk region, Roman Romanov, and the chief of the SBU’s main department in Donetsk region, Oleksandr Pelekh, asking that they “take all measures foreseen by Ukrainian law, which are necessary for the unhindered holding of this peaceful assembly by the citizens, maintaining public order, [and supporting] citizens’ rights and freedoms.”
