You're reading: Belgian, Japanese, US, German and Norwegian diplomats visit Sloviansk to see reconstruction process

On Thursday, Sept. 18 representatives of several embassies working in Ukraine - the Belgian, Japanese, US, German, Norwegian and those of other foreign states and international organizations - visited the town of Sloviansk of Donetsk region, a press service of Donetsk regional state administration reported.

“In particular, the diplomats visited the village of Semenivka, where on the example of the regional mental hospital, kindergarten and private house’s properties saw the scale of destructions brought by the recent military actions,” reads a report posted on Thursday, Sept. 18.

The diplomats met with parishioners of the church Dobra Zvistka in Sloviansk, which provides significant support for the restoration of destroyed houses using new technologies. Members of the religious organizations presented the diplomats a project on the restoration of houses.

During the visit to Sloviansk, the members of the foreign delegation, met with the leadership of city and region. They talked about restoration of the city and the possibility of the provision of aid from the leading countries of the world.

Deputy head of regional state administration Tamara Lukyanchuk presented a project on the restoration of Sloviansk to the guests. The diplomats saw what the town looked like immediately after liberation, how it looks now, and how the regional authorities see it in the near future.

Lukyanchuk said that it was very important for the regional authorities to receive help from foreign states when restoring Donbas.

“Peace is very important for us. Peace in Europe and the economic prosperity of the European countries depends on peace in the Donbas,” she told the diplomats.

The representatives of the embassies also visited the town of Sviatohirsk. They visited a children’s health treatment centre that which hosts refugees from the combat-affected territories.

“The diplomats assured the region’s leadership that their countries won’t ignore the problems connected with the restoration of normal life in Donetsk region,” read a report from Donetsk regional state administration.
