Former Georgian Economic Development Minister Kakha Bendukidze confirmed to reporters on May 28 he had joined the Ukrainian government's international expert council as an advisor.

“The council was set up with assistance from the Canadian government. It includes 2 Canadians, two Americans and me. The council will meet once a month to give recommendations to the Ukrainian government about most pressing issues. Ukraine is facing extremely complicated economic problems and I will try to be of help,” Bendukidze said.

Meanwhile, former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili wrote on Facebook on May 28 he was not going to take the formal position of a Ukrainian presidential advisor.

UDAR party leader Vitali Klitschko told reporters in Kyiv on May 26 that he had spoken to Saakashvili and Bendukidze and both of them were ready to become advisors of the Ukrainian president.

“Although I am not going to take an official position, our team, dozens of experienced reformers are already working in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine. We are at work with the government on a single public register, electronic registers and houses of justice. We have also started working together with the new Kyiv mayor and regional leaders. A success of Ukrainian reforms means a victory of freedom in the region. And this is also vital for Georgia,” Saakashvili wrote on Facebook.
