You're reading: Border guards prepare for Black Sea Hawk 2010 international exercises

The meeting of a working group on preparations for the Black Sea Hawk 2010 exercises has been held at the administration of the state border service of Ukraine, the department for media liaisons office at the state border service of Ukraine has reported.

Experts from the coast guards of Bulgaria, Georgia, Russia, Romania, Turkey, and Ukraine discussed the plan of operations, their terms, the list of forces involved in the exercises and the required funds. Participants of the meeting also considered the procedure for information exchange during the exercises.

This year, the coordinating role in the exercise planning has been entrusted to Ukraine, as the country which chairs the Black Sea border cooperation forum. The forum unites the coast (marine) guards of the Black Sea coastal countries. It facilitates close cooperation of laws enforcement agencies, the safety of navigation in the Black Sea, and combating smuggling, poaching and other illegal activities in the region.
