You're reading: Borrowers propose creating Bureau of Financial Investigations, NBU agrees

The representatives of the so called "financial Maidan," who on Dec. 16 actively picketed the government and the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU), have required the creation of the Bureau of Financial Investigations, a representative of activists, Ivan Karasev, has said.

“We plan to propose the project of the Bureau of Financial Investigations to the NBU – to set up it by the end of 2014,” he said during a meeting of the committee on financial policy and banking activity.

According to him, the relevant proposal was recorded in the protocol, which was signed by First Deputy Head of the NBU Oleksandr Pysaruk after a meeting with the representatives of depositors and borrowers.

In general, according to him, the protocol includes nine items, including those as for preparing proposals to strengthen the banks’ fulfilling the law on a moratorium on eviction from mortgaged property, the possibility of including the representatives of depositors and borrowers in temporary administrations and banks’ liquidation commissions, the possibility of individuals to repay loans by their deposits in the same insolvent bank.

In addition, the protocol contains information regarding the fact that the National Bank has issued a refinancing loan to VAB Bank in the amount of Hr 1.2 billion exclusively for payments to depositors.
