You're reading: Cabinet approves action plan worth Hr 745.3 million for Chornobyl nuclear power plant for 2014

 The Cabinet of Ministers has approved an action plan for 2014 to prepare Chornobyl NPP for decommissioning and transforming the Shelter object into an ecologically safe system. The appropriate decision was stipulated in government decree No. 108 of April 16. According to the document, the total cost of measures is Hr 745.271 million.

 In particular, in 2014 some Hr 376.508 million will be spent on maintenance in a safe condition of the first, second and third power units of Chornobyl NPP and the waste nuclear fuel storage facility, another Hr 234.182 million – on the maintenance and operation of vital systems at Chornobyl NPP, and on monitoring the state of nuclear and radiation safety.

In addition, Hr 63.617 million is to be used for the decommissioning and partial dismantling of certain systems and components of power units, Hr 43.7 million to remove nuclear fuel from power units, and Hr 27.264 million to build infrastructure to treat waste nuclear fuel and radioactive waste.
