Canada has announced economic sanctions and travel bans against 14 more individuals who bear responsibility for the crisis in Ukraine, Prime Minister of Canada Stephen Harper said in a statement issued on July 11.

“Today, we are announcing economic sanctions and travel bans against 14
additional individuals who have taken violent action aimed at undermining
Ukrainian sovereignty and violating Ukraine’s territorial integrity,” Harper
said.

In his words, Russia’s illegal occupation of the Crimean peninsula in Ukraine
and provocative military activity remains a serious concern to Canada and the
international community.

“Canada supports President Petro Poroshenko’s peace plan and we will continue
to apply pressure against Russia with our allies and partners. We continue to
closely monitor the situation and we are ready for further actions if
necessary,” the statement reads.

BBC reported quoting Harper that the list includes among others Deputy
Defense Minister of self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic Fedir Berezin,
Defense Minister of the breakaway Luhansk People’s Republic Ihor Plotnytsky and
the head of the Union of Orthodox Citizens of the so-called Novorossiya (which
translates as New Russia) Valeriy Kaurov.
