Canada is interested in boosting cooperation with Ukraine in the defense industry, and the two sides are in talks about the development of bilateral military-technical cooperation, Ambassador of Canada to Ukraine Roman Waschuk has said.

The potential of the bilateral military-technical cooperation was discussed in the past few days at talks between a known Canadian defense company with state-run Ukroboronprom Concern during a visit of a Canadian delegation to Ukraine, the Ambassador said at a press conference in Kyiv on Oct. 26.

In his words, the Canadian side is interested in establishing partnership with the defense industry of Ukraine. “Our cooperation in the security and defense sector has already been yielding commercial dividends,” he said.

As reported, Ukraine and Canada have been hammering out plans to qualitatively improve military-technical cooperation and establish cooperation in the defense industry since 2014. This includes such promising area as the aerospace sector.

Last week, Canadian-based Pratt & Whitney Canada (P&WC) and Ukrainian state-run enterprise Antonov, which is part of the Ukroboronprom Concern, signed an agreement on cooperation under a program for new light multipurpose An-132 aircraft whose carrying capacity is 9.2 tonns.

At the moment, Ukraine is building AN-132D demo aircraft at the request of Saudi Arabia. Its serial production is to be launched at an aircraft plant in Saudi Arabia as part of international cooperation.
