You're reading: Case against ‘Dykayev gang’ closed due to deaths of defendants, trial of law enforcers continues

ODESA – The Prymorsky District Court of Odesa has closed a criminal case against three members of the "Dykayev gang" - Aslan Dykayev, Andrei Shemyatenkov and Hassan Hasidov, the press service of the prosecutor's office of Odesa region has told Interfax-Ukraine. 

The court closed the case on November 16, 2012 in accordance with Paragraph 8, Article 6 of the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine (of 1960), due to the deaths of the defendants.

The trial of former senior officials of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry’s main office in Odesa region concerning the death and injury of police officers continues.

Reports said earlier that two Ukrainian policemen were killed and four others were wounded in an exchange of fire with gunmen in Odesa region early on September 30, 2011.

Two of the three members of a criminal group, including its leader Aslan Dykayev, were killed in a police operation in Odesa on Saturday, October 1. The criminals had been hiding in a private hotel in Odesa. The third criminal managed to escape, but was later found dead in Crimea.

Ukrainian police then detained five more members of the criminal group responsible for the killing of the two police officers in Odesa region, seizing an arsenal of weapons, ammunition and money.
