Chief of General Staff and Commander-in-Chief of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Army General Ivan Svyda has submitted a letter of resignation, the Defense Ministry's press service reported on Saturday.

While explaining the reason for such a decision, he said: "As an officer and a responsible person, I’m ready to work under difficult conditions to strengthen the country’s defense. In this situation, I recognize the president’s right to realize his vision of the development of the Armed Forces. He will do this with another chief of general staff."

"I’m not clinging to my post. I’m grateful to generals, officers, and all personnel of the Armed Forces for the difficult and important tasks that we have managed to fulfill together in the interests of strengthening Ukraine’s defensive capacity," Svyda said.
