Andrew Butler, a 13-year old boy killed in the United States  in 2011, had been adopted in Ukraine in 2003 together with two other children, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry reports.

The boy was shot in the head by his adoptive father.

“A probe conducted by the Ukrainian embassy in the United States discovered that Andrew Butler was adopted in 2003 by U.S. citizens under a judgment of Kramatorsk court of Donetsk region together with two other children,” a Foreign Ministry statement says.

The ministry press service says that consular officers of the Ukrainian embassy in the United States are taking measures to obtain direct access to children. “In the nearest future embassy diplomats will visit the place where the children and adoptive parent live under special control of the social service in West Virginia,” the report says.

The ministry notes that the adoptive father whose actions caused the death of the adopted child was sentenced by court and is serving his sentence.

“The Ukrainian embassy in the United States and the Foreign Ministry are keeping a special eye on the case, the press service said.
