You're reading: Chizhov says EU sanctions hindering normal life in Crimea

MOSCOW - The EU sanctions imposed on Crimea are formally anti-Ukrainian sanctions given that the European Union does not recognize Crimea as part of Russia, Russian Permanent Representative to the European Union Vladimir Chizhov said.

“The latest package of sanctions [regarding Crimea] looks paradoxical. Given that the European Union does not recognize Crimea’s return to Russia and continues to view Crimea as part of Ukraine, restrictions imposed on Crimea are formally anti-Ukrainian sanctions,” he said in a video-link on Dec. 26.

According to the Russian diplomat, the sanctions “are practically creating problems for a normal life on the peninsula.”
