You're reading: Chornovil: Events in Ukraine can be considered by Hague Tribunal

Events in Ukraine, in particular, the cases of crimes against humanity, could be subject to consideration by the UN General Assembly and can serve as grounds for an appeal to the Hague Tribunal, a political expert and Verkhovna Rada MP of previous convocations, Taras Chornovil, has said.

“Ukraine has committed crimes that could be considered by the UN General Assembly – namely torture and the introduction of terror by the state. Ukraine has a completed crime, which is sufficient to appeal to the Hague Tribunal,” he said during an online conference in Kyiv on Friday.

Chornovil said that even the beginning of the consideration of these cases by the UN General Assembly and an appeal to the Hague Tribunal “foresees some unspoken things that everyone forgets,” particularly the confiscation or seizure of property and the restriction of movement of persons involved in the financing of crimes against humanity.

He said that the opposition should not hold any talks with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych.

“It’s even theoretically impossible to change this person’s mind and do something to make him work in a civilized way. He’s not planning to finalize the negotiations with concessions… He has the task of wasting time and making everyone quarrel… pull together the riot police… and ensure the dispersal of the Maidan,” Chornovil said.
