Head of the Mejlis of the Crimean Tatar people Refat Chubarov has stressed the importance of the speedy organization of the work of the UN mission on monitoring the situation with human rights in Crimea.

“The situation in Crimea is so threatening that we cannot lose a single day. Therefore, we are part of our activities, as part of a UN General Assembly meeting, we talked with our partners about the urgent need to create a special UN mission, resolving the legal and organizational issues of its presence in Crimea,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Oct. 1.

Chubarov said that the creation of such a mission was very important, because the information coming from Crimea from people who live there, journalists and human rights defenders and the information coming from the occupation authorities was very different.

“It is important that the international community, particularly the United Nations, use data from their people [observers] in their judgments and estimates on Crimea,” he said.
