You're reading: Constitutional ruling expected Oct. 1

The press service of the Constitutional Court on Sept. 30 said justices will would issue a ruling on constitutional reforms enacted in late 2004 on Friday, Oct. 1.

The agreement to change the Constitution came during the 2004 Orange Revolution. The changes were pushed by the tandem of then Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych and former President Leonid Kuchma, the outgoing president, on Viktor Yushchenko, his successor.

The new Constitution has been widely regarded as the result of a bargain to re-run the second round of the presidential election on Dec. 26, 2004 to quell nationwide protests over voter fraud in Yanukovych’s favor.
