Kharkiv - Kharkiv District Administrative Court has granted the City Council's administrative suit and banned an indefinite protest against the Law on the Principles of the State Language Policy which its organizers plan to hold on Freedom Square on August 10.

“The court banned the protest aware that it may imperil public peace,” the court said in a ruling available to Interfax-Ukraine .

The rally may obstruct the traffic and negatively affect protestors’ health, the court said.

However, the defiant protestors are determined to hold the rally.

Reports said earlier that President Viktor Yanukovych signed the Law on the Principles of the Language Policy, which allows the governments of the predominantly Russian-speaking regions to give the Russian language official status.
