You're reading: Crimea continues to get electricity from Ukraine

Ukraine has not yet limited its power supplies to Crimea, despite warnings that it will do so following the shutdown of the Vuhlehirsk thermal power plant, Crimean leader Sergei Aksyonov said.

“There is light. The Russian Federation has been honoring all of its obligations in this respect from the standpoint of both power transit and supplies to Ukraine,” he told reporters in Simferopol on Aug. 4.

He also said that Russian Energy Minister Alexander Novak had contacted Ukrainian authorities after reports emerged early on Tuesday of a possible reduction in electricity supplies to Crimea.

“The issue is being dealt with at the federal level. I cannot say what reasons it (Ukraine) has there (for cutting the supplies to Crimea), but a solution will be found in one way or another,” the regional leader said.
