You're reading: Crimean communists to protest against NATO’s Sea Breeze exercises

The Crimean republican committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine has decided "to organize the popular resistance of Crimean residents to NATO's Sea Breeze 2010 drills in Crimea."

The text of a respective resolution passed by the bureau of the Crimean Republican Committee of the Communist Party of Ukraine was posted on the Web site of the committee’s secretary, Ukrainian MP Leonid Hrach, on Tuesday.

The document says that the reason for its adoption was the adoption by the Verkhovna Rada of a resolution on the approval of the Ukrainian president’s decision to allow foreign military units into Ukraine in 2010 to participate in multinational military exercises.

The resolution by the communists foresees an address to the presidium of the Communist Party’s central committee with the proposal to hold a protest in Crimea to prevent the holding of the Sea Breeze 2010 exercises in Crimea. In addition, the document envisages the deployment of mobilization work among Crimean residents through the media in order to organize public protests against the military exercises. The Sea Breeze 2010 exercises are planned to be held in the second half of July this year.
