SIMFEROPOL - Crimean leader Sergei Aksionov has dismissed the region's Fuel and Energy Minister Sergei Yegorov, citing his poor handling of the state of emergency, which has been declared on the peninsula after all four power lines carrying electricity to the region were disabled in southern Ukraine.

Aksionov announced his decision at a session of the Crimean government on Nov. 24.

“You will have to look for another job,” Aksionov said following Yegorov’s report.

Svetlana Borodulina, who most recently held the post of Aksionov’s energy adviser, has replaced Yegorov as Crimea’s fuel and energy minister.

Aksionov also criticized the rolling power cut schedules introduced in Crimea.

“Some houses have not had any power cuts at all, while other houses have no power completely. It is the utmost degree of idiotism,” he added.

“Why did you print these schedules if you are unable to follow them?” Aksionov asked.

A large number of Crimean villages have been left without electricity since 12 p.m. on Nov. 22, he said.

Yegorov, for his part, explained this situation by the worn-out state of Crimea’s energy system, which had not been updated when the peninsula was still part of Ukraine.
