You're reading: Criminal case opened against Melitopol provider for broadcasting Russian TV channels

A criminal case has been started in Melitopol, a city in the Zaporizhia region in southeastern Ukraine, against a provider who broadcasts Russian television channels, including Channel One. World Network, RTR-Planeta, Ren-TV and Zvezda, Ukraine's National Council for Television and Radio reported.

“As the license holder repeatedly disregarded warnings by the
Council’s regional representative, the Investigative Department of the
Melitopol Prosecutor’s Office entered the case on the single register of
pre-trial inquiries and started an investigation,” it said.

The Kyiv District Administrative Court started hearings in March 2014
of the case of banning broadcasts of four Russian television channels –
Channel One. World Network, RTR-Planeta, Rossiya 24 and NTV-Mir in
Ukraine. Pending litigation, broadcasts of these channels will remain
banned through cable networks.
