The Kyiv Prosecutor's Office has opened a criminal case over the formation of paramilitary groups in Kyiv, Kyiv Prosecutor Mykola Beskyshky said at a briefing on Thursday.

“We have opened criminal proceedings under the Article 260 Part 2 and Part 4 regarding the illegal establishment of armed paramilitary groups,” Beskyshky said.

The criminal case was opened two days ago over the latest information that paramilitary groups formed illegally could operate in Kyiv, Kyiv Prosecutor’s Office spokeswoman Yana Sobolevska said.

“This information is currently being checked by investigators,” Sobolevska said.

The investigation has been assigned to the Kyiv main police department, Sobolevska said.
