You're reading: Criminal case regarding attack on activist Chornovol sent to court

The criminal case regarding two persons that inflicted bodily harm to former investigative journalist and Maidan activist Tetiana Chornovol has been sent to court, acting Prosecutor General Oleh Makhnitsky said at a briefing on June 13.

According to him, it’s been established that on
December 24, 2013, two citizens in a Porsche Cayenne car blocked a car
driven by Chornovol, stopped it and damaged it. Then they inflicted
bodily harm of medium severity to Chornovol: closed craniocerebral
injury, brain concussion, nose fracture, facial soft tissue bruises,
lower lip laceration, abrasions on right cheek and effusion of blood in
the eye socket.

According to the press service of the Prosecutor General’s Office of
Ukraine (PGO), the above-mentioned persons are being incriminated in
crimes under Part 2, Article 296 and Part 2, Article 122 (intentional
infliction of bodily harm of medium severity) of the Criminal Code of
Ukraine. Both suspects are in custody.

After questioning
Chornovol on December 26 the proceedings were additionally qualified
under Part 2, Article 121 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (infliction of
grave bodily injuries).

As part of the investigation, law enforcers apprehended five people suspected of committing the crime.
