You're reading: Defense Ministry refuses to introduce buy-outs from military service as suggested by some MPs

The Ukrainian Defense Ministry has rejected introducing the practice of buy-outs from military service, Deputy Head of the Mobilization Department of Mobilization Directorate of the Main Office of Defense and Mobilization Planning Department of the General Command of Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Pravdyvets has said.

“The Defense Ministry didn’t agree to the bill on introducing buy-outs as suggested by a group of MPs. The ministry’s decision is based on the fact that Ukraine’s Constitution foresees defending homeland as the obligation of every Ukrainian citizen,” he said at a briefing in Kyiv on Aug. 18.
