Petro Poroshenko Bloc has won the most support among Ukrainians in the latest elections and will form the largest faction in the new Verkhovna Rada, said Volodymyr Hroisman, one of the party leaders and Deputy Prime Minister.

“By absolute majority of the Ukrainian support – both for party lists and in first-past-the-post constituencies – we are the leaders,” he told a press conference in Kyiv on Wednesday, Oct. 29.

The total margin between the closest rival is over 1 million votes, Hroisman said. .

Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk said on Tuesday, Oct. 28 that the elections had been won by his People’s Front party. The prime minister said that as the election winner People’s Front may nominate the future prime minister and form a coalition.

According to the Central Election Commission (CEC), the results of processing 98.53 percent protocols showed People’s Front winning 22.17 percent in single-mandate constituencies, ahead of Poroshenko Bloc with 21.82 percent by more than 55,000 votes. With these results, People’s Front will have 64 deputies representing party-list constituencies, and Poroshenko Bloc – 63.

However, at the moment, 69 Poroshenko Bloc nominees are winning in first-past-the-post constituencies versus 18 People’s Front candidates.

Based on the interim data and not counting 96 independents in the new Rada, the Poroshenko Bloc faction will include 133 deputies, whereas the People’s Front will have 82 in its faction.

226 votes are required for a parliamentary majority.

The third largest faction so far is Samopomich with 33 members.
