You're reading: Donetsk region to present alternative energy and energy saving projects in Japan

The investment potential of Donetsk region will be presented during a visit by a mission of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry of Ukraine to Osaka, Japan, on December 9-12, the press service of Donetsk Regional Administration has said.

Deputy Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Oleksandr Fomenko said during a meeting with Ambassador of Japan to Ukraine Toichi Sakata on Tuesday that Donetsk region would present to potential investors projects in the field of alternative energy and energy saving.

Acting Head of Donetsk Regional State Administration Serhiy Derhunov, in turn, informed the Japanese mission representatives about the investment and economic potential of the region. He said Donetsk region is interested in establishing trade and economic relations with various countries. He said that at present trade between Donetsk region and Japan remains very low, indicating the need to intensify the potential for growth in bilateral cooperation.

At the same time, he named an example of successful cooperation between the regional authorities and Japan. The project, to modernize the heating system in Horlivka, has been approved, and is being implemented under the Kyoto Protocol. The total cost of the project, according to which modern Japanese heating equipment has to be supplied to a city with 300,000 residents, is estimated at UAH 440 million.

“I think that this ‘green investment’ will be the first step towards deepening our bilateral cooperation,” said Derhunov.

Sakata, in turn, said that the scheme of “green investment” was a very important area of cooperation.

“I hope that your project will be successfully completed,” he said.
