You're reading: Donetsk Regional Council elects new chairman

Donetsk, August 4 (Interfax-Ukraine) – Andriy Fedoruk of the Regions Party has been elected the chairman of Donetsk Regional Council.

A total of 124 deputies voted for Fedoruk in a secret ballot at a council session on Thursday. Five deputies voted against, and two abstained.

Fedoruk was the only candidate for this post. He was nominated by Donetsk regional governor Andriy Shyshatsky, who was dismissed as the chairman of Donetsk Regional Council the same day.

As reported, on July 12, Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych appointed chairman of Donetsk Regional Council Andriy Shyshatsky as head of Donetsk Regional Administration.

Since July 13, Fedoruk has acted as the head of Donetsk Regional Council.

Fedoruk, born 1968, is a member of the Regions Party.
