Donetsk Regional Council will hold a special sitting on August 16 at 1200, reads a posting on the Web site of the regional council.

The agenda of the sitting includes the issue on the implementation of
the law of Ukraine on the principles of the state language policy in
Donetsk region.

As reported, deputies of Odesa City Council gave Russian language the
status of a regional language in the city at a special sitting on
August 13.

The law on the principles of the state language policy in Ukraine,
which significantly broadens the use of the Russian language and other
minority languages in the country, entered into force after its official
publication on August 10.
