Donetsk-based separatists claim they shot down two more Ukrainian attack aircraft near the town of Snizhne.

"The pilot of one of the attack aircraft ejected near Snizhne. The search for him is underway. Yet another (Sukhoi) Su-25 aircraft has reportedly been damaged and gone towards the north," the Donetsk militia headquarters of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) told Interfax on July 23.

Militia also said they are firing artillery against the Marynivka border checkpoint and the village of Hryhorivka from the Dubrovka village near Snizhne.

“These areas are hosting forces of the Ukrainian Azov battalion which has returned to the front after being re-organized. The strikes are being carried out against them,” the DPR militia said.

For their part, Luhansk separatists claim they shot down two more Ukrainian army aircraft the day earlier.

“Four Su-25 attack aircraft and two Su-27 fighters – spent the whole day yesterday flying over the LPR (Luhansk People’s Republic) territory. The aviation was operating both over Luhansk and its airport, and over the city of Alchevsk. As a result of using the republic’s air defense weapons, two hostile aircraft were destroyed,” a LPR spokesperson said on July 23.

“For the first time the Ukrainian aviation used a (Mikoyan) MiG-29 fighter which was conducting aerial reconnaissance at a low altitude,” the spokesperson said.
