Moscow - The Russian-led insurgents from the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) claim to have shot down a Ukrainian military plane during a battle in Horlivka, Donetsk Oblast. Ukrainian government forces deny their claim.

“The Ukrainian Air Force delivered an airstrike upon Horlivka suburbs. In response, a plane, supposedly a Su-25, was destroyed by anti-aircraft fire,” the DPR Twitter reported on Saturday.

Kosiyantyn Knyryk, a spokesman for South-Eastern Front, confirmed this information later. “The militia managed to shoot down a Su-25 plane belonging to Ukrainian security forces in the area of Horlivka,” Knyryk told Interfax.

Knyryk had said before that the Ukrainian Air Force had pounded the Horlivka area.

However, Vladyslav Selezniov, the chief spokesman for the anti-terrorist operation in southeastern Ukraine, denied these allegations.

“Another fake from that side of the barricades sounds this way: the militants have shot down another Ukrainian plane. I’d like to stress that all our planes are at their bases, and they are all safe and sound,” Selezniuov said on the 112 Ukraine television station on Saturday.
