You're reading: DPR denies Western accusations of poorly guarding Malaysian Boeing crash site

Moscow - A member of the security council of the self-proclaimed "Donetsk People's Republic" (DPR), Sergei Kavtaradze, has rejected the West's claims accusing "militiamen" of poorly protecting the site of the Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17 crash from looters.

“The Boeing crash site is being protected very well, including with
the help of secret checkpoints intended to counter looters. Besides, a
miners’ battalion based near the crash site will be able to promptly
respond [to any such incidents]. It means that all these remarks with
regard to looting are groundless,” Kavtaradze told Interfax on Friday.

The DPR leadership is prepared to consider requests from the
countries whose citizens were killed in the July 17 crash that may want
to send their police units to the Boeing-777 crash site, he said.

“If the authorities of the Netherlands and Malaysian, or, let’s say,
Australia forward such a proposal to us, we will certainly discuss it.
But it would be interesting to see what, let’s say, Dutch policemen will
do to maintain order here, in the area of hostilities,” Kavtaradze
said.
