You're reading: DTEK starts restoring power supply to Avdiyivka Coke

Energy workers of DTEK on Tuesday, July 29 started restoring the destroyed power line of Avdiyivka Coke Plant (Donetsk region), which at present is fully disconnected from power, the press service of the energy holding has reported.

“Energy workers got a green corridor and they started working at
once. The situation is critical. If today by the evening power is not
restored, it will be impossible to launch the coke-oven batteries. A
coke-oven battery is a large complex with up to 70 ovens which are to
operate uninterruptedly for 25 years. The operation of the coke plant is
the basis for the operation of the metal sector of Ukraine,” reads the
report.

As reported, the normal scheme of power supply to Avdiyivka Coke
foresees four 110 kV lines. A dangerous situation occurred due to the
damage of three high-tension power lines on July 21-22 when active armed
hostilities started near Avdiyivka. The plant was operating using only
one of the four required lines for three days – from July 22 to July 25.
It took two days to restore the second reserve line, although on July
26 it was damaged again.

The Avdiyivka enterprise, one of the largest coking plants in Europe,
is a member of the Metinvest industrial group, whose major shareholder
is Ukrainian businessman Rinat Akhmetov.
