The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine finds it unreasonable to transfer to winter or summer time, but a decision on choosing a time zone for Ukraine will be taken during an additional discussion, according to the first deputy economic development and trade minister, Vadym Kopylov.

"Everyone clearly stated that it is unreasonable to switch to winter or summer time. During a special meeting with the participation of the premier, scientists, public health, energy and education experts we will give a clear answer to the issue of choosing a second or third time zone," he told reporters in Kyiv on Jan. 25.

Kopylov forecast that the government will consider a bill on time keeping in Ukraine [which was submitted by the Economic Development and Trade Ministry] during its next meeting, approve it and send the document to the Verkhovna Rada.

He did not forecast when exactly a decision on the issue would be taken, but excluded the possibility of dividing the country into two time zones.

"Dividing the country into two time zones – we will oppose this option. It cannot be allowed that people in different parts of the country wake up at different time. This will cause a collapse in the banking system and the movement of traffic," he said.
