It is currently possible to hold parliamentary elections in 11 constituencies in Donetsk region and four constituencies in Luhansk region, Central Election Commission (CEC) Chairman Mykhailo Okhendovsky has said.

‘Now we can talk about the possibility of organizing and conducting the vote in at least 11 constituencies of Donetsk region and four constituencies of Luhansk region,’ he told journalists in Kyiv on Sept. 30.

He also added: ‘We will hold the elections where it is safe. For us there is no territory controlled by the DPR and LPR, for us there is only territory in which it’s safe or unsafe to hold a vote.’

Okhendovsky said that the heads of the two regional state administrations would provide information about the polling stations where it is now safely to prepare for and hold the elections in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

When asked whether the work is now underway to prepare for the elections throughout Donetsk and Luhansk regions, he said: ‘Unfortunately, no. The CEC is unable to hold preparations in the constituencies where it’s impossible for security reasons. ‘

‘We will talk and substantively inform the public about these constituencies from Oct. 1, as soon as we complete the stage of registration of candidates,’ – he said.

At the same time, according to Okhendovsky, in constituencies where the vote will not be held at any of the polling stations, the elections will be declared the ones that did not take place, and then the CEC will have reason to schedule repeat elections in such constituencies.
