The Ukrainian Emergencies Ministry's main office in Kyiv region has denied reports of there being fires in the Chornobyl exclusion zone.

"We can refute this information. No fires have been reported in the Chornobyl zone," the press service of the ministry’s main office in Kyiv region told Interfax-Ukraine on Thursday.

The press service also said that in general, there were enough people and technical resources in this area in order to tackle emergencies, if necessary.

A Ukrainian lawmaker from the Our Ukraine-People’s Self-Defense Bloc and the emergencies minister of the shadow government, Yuriy Hrymchak, earlier said that wildfires recently broke out in the Chornobyl exclusion zone, bringing smoke to Kyiv and Chernihiv regions, and to the city of Kyiv.
