No wildfires have been recorded in Chornobyl region during the heatwave, Head of the Main Department of the Emergencies Ministry in Kyiv region Orest Turkevych has said.

"I would like to assure you that no wildfires have been recorded in the Chornobyl area, except for a grass fire 500 square meters in area which was immediately put out," he said during a briefing in Kyiv on Friday.

Asked when the grass fire took place, Turkevych said: "Today."

According to him, "this was an insignificant case [of a type] that regularly takes place in the region." "This is a regular situation that doesn’t influence the general state of affairs," he said.
