Ukraine imported about 70,000 tonnes of coal from Russia from January 1 to January 11, 2015, Ukrainian Energy and Coal Industry Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn said at a meeting of the parliament's anti-corruption committee on Jan. 12.

“About 70,000 tonnes of [Russian] coal was imported in the past 11 days,” he
said.

Freight cars with the coal departed way back in November 2014, but couldn’t
reach Ukraine due to the blocking of coal shipments by Russia, he said.

The ministry is actively working to start buying coal from Kazakhstan and
Australia, he added.

“I expect announcements about supplies from alternative sources soon,” he
said.

As was reported, Ukraine in 2014 imported 2.293 million tonnes of
power-generating coal. In particular, 1.840 million tonnes came from Russia,
371,900 tonnes from South Africa, and 81,300 tonnes from Australia.
