You're reading: Energy Ministry forecasts 3 percent fall in electricity consumption in Ukraine in 2013

Electricity consumption in Ukraine in 2013 will decline by 3.1 percent compared to 2012, to 182.594 billion kWh, the press service of the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry has said, with reference to minister Eduard Stavytsky.

However, in 2014, according to his forecast, power consumption will increase by 1 percent compared to the projected figure for 2013, to 184.42 billion kWh. The growth is expected due to household consumption, while industrial users will keep consumption at the level of the current year.

“It should be noted that in 2013 the decline in electricity supply to users by 3.1 percent compared to 2012 is observed. However, in 2014 electricity consumption is expected to increase by 1 percent, with the increase in consumption for households being 2.2 percent, while power consumption in industry will remain at the 2013 level,” he said.

The minister also noted that the preparation of Ukraine’s energy system for the autumn-winter heating period of 2013-2014 was held under the plan and has been almost completed, which is demonstrated by the execution of the necessary amount of repair and renovation works, as well as the creation of the necessary fuel reserves.
