LVIV – The Ukrainian authorities feel certain degree of isolation, when it comes to visits of European politicians to the country, Head of the European Union's Delegation to Ukraine Jose Manuel Pinto Teixeira said commenting on the cancellation of the German president's visit to Ukraine.

"The Ukrainian authorities feel certain degree of isolation, when it comes to visits of European politicians to the country. A meeting of an initiative bringing together the presidents of the Central and Eastern Europe will take place in Yalta this summer, several refusals have come recently, in particular that of the president of the Czech Republic," he said on April 26 during a meeting with journalists at the Vysoky Zamok newspaper’s editorial office in Lviv.

According to Teixeira, this is a clear message to Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych that the leaders of European countries do not see any improvement in Ukraine, which aspires for a membership of the EU.

However, when asked about the possibility of application of sanctions against Ukrainian officials, the ambassador said that the EU doesn’t see Ukraine in the same light as Belarus.
