The European Union hopes for close cooperation between Ukraine and the Venice Commission in the sphere of election legislation, European Council President Herman Van Rompuy has said.

"The parliamentary elections next year will be a litmus test of how important the obligations to create fair conditions for all participants of the elections are," Van Rompuy told a press conference after the Ukraine-EU Summit in Kyiv on Monday.

He also said that all citizens should use their political rights.

We pay attention to the fact that in the Ukrainian parliament various factions supported the bill on parliamentary elections, and we call on you to continue close cooperation with the Venice Commission," Van Rompuy said.
