You're reading: EU hopes Russia will back Poroshenko’s plan

The EU hopes that Russia will support the peace plan for the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine proposed by Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko, British Foreign Secretary William Hague said in Luxembourg on June 23.

“[Ukrainian] President [Petro] Poroshenko has presented a strong
plan, a very good peace plan. We hope now everybody, including Russia,
will work with that, that what [Russian] President [Vladimir] Putin said
about supporting the plan will be translated into action by Russia,” he
said, noting that “in the absence of that, the European Union will be
able to take further measures, further sanctions on Russia, and those
measures are already prepared.”

Hague made his statement ahead of a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.
