You're reading: EU insists on Russia-Ukraine direct dialogue for crisis resolution

Russia and Ukraine should start a direct dialogue, such is the goal of the four-party meeting in Geneva, the EU diplomacy chief's spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said in Brussels on April 16.

She did not confirm a possible meeting at the next week’s EU summit,
citing a prerogative of the European Council President, and adding that
everything will depend on the situation on the spot and the results of
the Geneva meeting.

The main thing now is to secure the de-escalation of the situation, Kocijancic said.

The EU still adheres to the position it announced at the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on April 14, she said.

She declined to comment on reports about developments in east Ukraine, saying these need to be checked.
