During a meeting with Yanukovych, President of the European Council Herman Van Rompuy expressed a positive evaluation of Ukraine’s striving for European integration. He said that the EU is awaiting a Ukraine-EU summit scheduled for December.

According to the president of the European Council, work on bilateral documents should be finished by that time, so that Ukraine and the EU could take their relations to a new level. He also stressed the importance of further reform in Ukraine.

In turn, Barroso said that he supports Ukraine’s course towards European integration.

He said Ukraine has an opportunity to become the first country of the Eastern Partnership project to sign an association agreement.

Yanukovych said, "I highly appreciate this open, constructive dialogue between us and I am ready to continue it."
