The European Union supports Ukraine in its eagerness to conduct the reform of the energy market, introduce innovations and develop types of renewable energy, Andrew Rasbash, Head of Operations at the EU Delegation to Ukraine, has said at the 4th European-Ukrainian Energy Day.

“We want Ukraine to have a balanced energy strategy, and stability in the energy sector for the long-term outlook,” he said.

He said that the implementation of European rules and requirements
would help Ukraine to change the market and increase the energy security
of the country.

As reported, Ukraine has promised to the European Energy Community
that it will increase the share of its renewable energy to 11% by 2020.

The capacity of Ukrainian power plants using renewable energy last
year grew by 57.5%, to 645.1 MW, while power generation soared by 2.2
times, to 815.9 million kilowatt-hours. Ukraine has built one of
Europe’s largest solar power plants, Perove, whose capacity exceeds 105
MW, and a large wind farm, Botiyevska, with a capacity of 90 MW.
However, despite the doubling of generating capacity, their share of the
total amount was very low, at 0.45% in 2012 (0.22% in 2011).
