The European Union, through the implementation of its Twinning project, has allocated 1.55 million euro to the Ukrainian Interior Troops to improve the effectiveness and quality of their work.

An Interfax-Ukraine reporter said that the results of this project were summed up in Kyiv on Thursday with the participation of the leadership of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry, Interior Troops and European diplomats.

According to a press release passed to reporters, as part of the project, the EU and Ukraine cooperated to improve the system of the maintenance of public order by the interior troops, introducing the best European and international practices.

In addition, through the support of structural reforms in the law enforcement system, this project contributed to strengthening the rule of law in Ukraine.

Head of Operations of the EU Delegation to Ukraine Andrew Rasbash said at a press conference dedicated to the closure of the Twinning project that Ukraine wants to join the European Union and therefore it should share European values, including the rule of law, respect for human rights, and democratic freedoms.

“The EU member states welcome Ukraine’s aspirations to join the EU and to support the European values that prevail there,” the diplomat said.
