You're reading: EU to lift sanctions from former top Ukrainian officials if Ukraine fails to present crimes evidence – PGO

The Prosecutor General's Office in Ukraine has said that sanctions imposed by the European Union could be removed from some former Ukrainian senior officials after June 6.

Thus, according to deputy prosecutor general Yuriy Stoliarchuk, the EU might lift sanctions from ex-head of presidential administration during presidency of Viktor Yanukovych, Serhiy Kliuyev, ex-education minister Dmytro Tabachnyk, ex-justice minister Olena Lukash, if by June 6 these persons don’t receive suspicions in committing the crimes.

Besides, the PGO chief on special investigations department Serhiy Horbatiuk has reported that Interpol refused to put on wanted list ex-interior minister Vitaliy Zakharchenko, irrespective he was noted on suspicion of embezzlement of funds for purchase of special means.

In addition, the PGO is still waiting for Interpol response on presenting notice to ex-parliamentarian from Regions Party Andriy Kliuyev, ex-prosecutor general Viktor Pshonka and ex-SBU chief Oleksandr Yakymenko.

Horbatiuk stressed that Interpol doesn’t declare wanted people for crimes committed against protesters on Kyiv Maidan, for corruption only.

He said that son of former premier of Ukraine Mykola Azarov, Oleksiy, was suspected in illegal enrichment, but the EU removed sanctions.

“Oleksiy Azarov was informed on suspicion for discrepancy between declared incomes to his foreign bank accounts long ago before removing sanctions. However, it didn’t prevent EU from lifting sanctions,” he said.
