You're reading: EU to support any initiative aimed at resolving Ukraine’s crisis, including new Geneva talks

The European Union will support any initiative, including the holding of the new round of talks in Geneva to resolve the crisis in Ukraine. The representative of EU diplomacy chief Catherine Ashton, Maja Kocjancic, said this in Brussels on May 6 when commenting a relevant initiative of the German side.

She said Brussels is open to any initiative that will put an end to the violence and lead to de-escalation of the crisis. The EU is actively involved in the search for a political solution, and is open to any initiatives if they are useful, Ashton’s representative said.

Kocjancic recalled that not so long ago Ashton was on a visit to Berlin, where she met with German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and today she is in Washington, where she will meet with U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry. The talks will focus on the settlement of the crisis in Ukraine.

However, Kocjancic did not comment on the possibility of the deployment of international peacekeepers in Ukraine.
