If Ukraine signs the Association Agreement with the European Union, there could be issues with imports from this country, but also partly with exports, Eurasian Economic Commission Trade Minister Andrei Slepnev said at a briefing on the results of meetings with Customs Union business and industrial associations.

“There is a significant risk of a drop in supplies of Russian goods to Ukraine,” he said.

This is due especially to increased competition from products from the EU and Turkey, which are also part of the free trade area. In addition, as Ukraine introduces European standards there will be non-tariff barriers for goods from Russia and the Customs Union as a whole, linked with the need to re-certify and confirm compliance with new regulations.

Asked what kind of goods there might be problems with, Slepnev said all agriculture group goods would be affected. There are also risks for household appliances, vehicles and various others.
