The defense lawyer of former Rector of the National University of State Tax Service of Ukraine Petro Melnyk, Ruslan Misiuna, has stated that recent reports alleging that his client has crossed Ukraine-Belarus border were groundless.
“They are groundless. There is no reason to think that he is in somewhere in Belarus using someone’s passport. There is video surveillance at the checkpoint, they should show their video records,” the lawyer told Interfax-Ukraine on Friday, while commenting on recent media reports saying that Melnyk had escaped to Belarus.
Misiuna added that he had every reason to say that Melnyk is undergoing treatment, however, he did not give a clear answer when asked whether the ex-rector was in Ukraine.
