DONETSK - Ukrainian government forces and militias have exchanged fire in the areas of Donetsk airport and the communities of Pisky and Avdiyivka over the past 24 hours, the defense ministry of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People's Republic (DPR) has told Interfax.

‘Our units repelled several attempts to neutralize our firing points. There were also skirmishes near Avdiyivka. We had to return fire in response to the Ukrainian security forces’ actions,’ a ministry source said.

‘Combat activities are also continuing at the Donetsk airport,’ the source said. ‘Ukrainian troops are still holding part of the underground installations, and there are some problems with this,’ it said.

Large-caliber gun salvos were also heard last night near the community of Krasnohorivka, a western suburb of Donetsk, it said.
